If you’re thinking smaller, you might want to try RunHosting (http://facebook.runhosting.com) or 110MB (http://www.110mb.com). It’s good to look at a few and see which one offers the best fit for what you want to do. Many of these web sites also have free database hosting (usually MySQL), which is a great way to get up and running with Facebook application development.
